Description
An unfamiliar missed call can leave you wondering whether to ring back. CallerCheck is a free UK phone number lookup service where you can read other people’s experiences of a number and check its community-based spam score. It works online, so you can search from your phone, tablet or computer without installing an app.
What can you check for free?
CallerCheck supports UK landlines, mobile numbers and other UK number ranges. Depending on the information available, a number’s page can show:
- Reports describing what callers said or what happened when someone answered.
- Ratings indicating whether people considered a call safe, unknown, suspicious or spam.
- A spam score based on approved community ratings.
- The number of reports and lookups recorded for that number.
- Background information such as the number type and the area associated with a geographic dialling code.
Searching numbers, reading reports and submitting your own experience are free. There is no account to create and no physical item to order or collect.
How to look up an unknown UK number
- Click the Claim Freebie button to open CallerCheck.
- Enter the number from your call log into the search box. The site accepts numbers with or without spaces, including the +44 format.
- Read the available reports, paying attention to their dates and the type of call described.
- Consider the individual comments alongside the score before deciding what to do next.
You can also browse recent caller reports or explore the UK area-code directory for more context.
What do the results mean?
CallerCheck gathers experiences from the public; a result is not a verified identification of the person who called. If a number has no reports, that simply means there is no community evidence available yet. It does not establish that the call is safe.
Caller IDs can also be spoofed, making a call appear to come from a different number. An area code describes a numbering area, rather than proving where a caller is currently located. If an unexpected caller claims to represent an organisation, use contact details you independently trust to check the claim.
Share your own experience
If you have received a call, you can search for its number and use the reporting form to describe what happened. Useful details include whether it was a recorded message, who the caller claimed to represent and whether the calls were repeated. Keep personal or sensitive information out of public comments. Reports are reviewed before publication.
Do you need the CallerCheck app?
The website lookup works without an app. CallerCheck also offers an iPhone app, with free number checks, reporting and scam-call warnings. CallerCheck PRO is a separate, optional paid subscription for additional features such as automatic blocking; it is not needed to use this website freebie.
Checking a US number instead?
Use CheckMyCaller’s free US phone number lookup, CallerCheck’s sister service for US and Canadian numbers. It provides approved community reports, risk scores and available area-code or carrier-allocation information, with no account required. Like CallerCheck, it cannot prove who placed a call or reveal a private subscriber’s identity.
